Forcefield Kadet Youth Body Armor
Each year the motorcycle industry introduces all sorts of new, innovative safety products and riding gear, providing us with more choices and better protection than ever before. One area I haven’t seen much improvement in, however, is protective gear for youth riders. That’s why I was excited to see Forcefield Body Armour has created a back protector specifically for children.
The Kadet has a CE Level 1 rated back protector made for youth riders with a torso length of 25–29cm. The back protector is made using their propriety PVC Nitrile-based mold, Nitrex Evo. The Kadet is shock absorbing, flexible, lightweight and according to Forcefield Body Armour can handle multiple impacts with no loss of protection so there is no likely need to replace the back protector after a fall or crash.
To give the Kadet a full test, I enlisted the help of my eight-year-old son, Noah. His initial reaction to seeing the back protector was, “This looks like something Valentino Rossi would wear.” Those words can be translated to mean he thinks it looks cool.
Noah wore the Kadet during a hare scramble. The Kadet is meant to be worn under your outer layer so he wore it under his riding jersey. Using the adjustable shoulder straps and the Velcro waist belt, we were able to get a comfortable and secure fit. Over the course of the hour-long race, Noah was able to test the claim that the back protector could handle multiple impacts as he came off the bike a few times that day. I visually inspected the Kadet after the race and it still looked like brand new. I asked Noah his thoughts and he stated, “It was comfortable. I could barely tell I even had it on.”
The Kadet could also be worn for added protection when your child is on the back of your street bike or even for other sports such as skiing or snowboarding. MSRP: $99 ForcefieldBodyArmour.com
