Ram Mounts GPS Phone and GoPro Mounts
As you might have surmised from the companies name, Ram Mounts make mounting solutions for just about everything that you could imagine. Some of their motorcycle-oriented mounts work for a variety of GPS units, phones, cameras and even cup holders.
What makes Ram Mounts products standout is the variety of different bases that they offer for attaching things to your bike. They offer U-bolt clamps for handlebars, threaded post options for handlebar top clamps or mirror threads, a suction cup, or my personal favorite: the Tough Claw and more.
All of the different mounts utilize a ball that attaches to whichever component you are securing to on your bike, as well as a ball on whatever you are fixing in place, with a double socket-clamping arm in the middle. The clamping arms come in different lengths, finishes, and tightening knobs as well as lockable and ratcheting options.
While the arms do an amazing job of keeping things in place they can be a pain to adjust or get into the position that you desire. Another possible cause of irritation is that the clamping arm secures both ball ends at once so if you are trying to remove your GoPro to go into a gas station then the arm is coming with it or falling off all together. Although I am assuming that this is why they make locking mechanisms.
I have a threaded post for my Garmin GPS unit because I like to keep it in the same place but for my GoPro I really like the Tough-Claw or suction cup for the versatility they offer. I tested out the X-Grip holder for my IPhone 6 Plus because it seemed like a great concept but I found that it was not suitable for use on an adventure motorcycle.
It works great in the security of my Jeep but it does not grab onto my phone case firmly enough to instill a sense of security while riding down the road let alone the trail. All of the other cradles I have used and tested from Ram have been rock solid.
The Tough-Claw and twist lock suction cup bases seemed very trustworthy and tough; I was impressed with how well they worked. Between the two it would be difficult to find a place on a motorcycle where you could not attach something.
Ram Mounts offers many options for attaching things to your bike at reasonable price points. Their products might not be as fancy as others but they are rugged and work well. Whatever they are lacking in style they make up for in adaptability and heavy-duty construction. MSRP: $34.03-$61.99 RamMount.com
